Shakespeare Pub - World Wine Pairing Evening

Good food. Great wine. No Bollocks!

“Life is too short to drink bad wine… and far too short to pretend you understand tasting notes.”

Welcome to an evening celebrating the best of Chile, Argentina and California.

Our chef has spent days perfecting the menu. Our wine suppliers have carefully selected every bottle.

Your job is considerably easier…

Sit down, eat well, drink generously and nod knowingly whenever someone says they can taste “hints of oak.”

Welcome Reception

Shakespeare Summer Sangria

Our house sangria is handcrafted using Casillero del Diablo Red Blend from Chile, the Official Wine of the Mexican National Football Team, blended with fresh citrus, seasonal fruit and just enough mischief to convince you one glass is enough.

Casillero del Diablo Red Blend

Central Valley, Chile

“It’s fruit. It’s wine. Technically that’s two of your five-a-day. Please don’t ask us to show our maths.”

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Fresh Fish Ceviche

Fresh market fish cured in lime and citrus juices with ripe avocado, tomatoes, cucumber, coriander, red onion and a cheeky kick of chilli, served with crisp artisan crostini.

Fresh. Light.

Nothing like the fish your nan accidentally overcooked in 1987.

Trivento White Malbec

Mendoza, Argentina

One of Argentina’s most unusual wines, this elegant White Malbec delivers fresh citrus, white peach and delicate floral aromas with a wonderfully crisp finish that lets the seafood do all the talking.

“Yes, White Malbec exists. No, someone hasn’t made a mistake. We checked.”

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Golden Panko-Crusted Brie

A generous wedge of creamy French Brie coated in crisp golden panko breadcrumbs and fried until gloriously molten. Served with homemade caramelised onion marmalade, toasted crostini, fresh berries and a drizzle of warm hot honey.

It’s cheese.

Deep fried.

We’re not apologising.

Casillero del Diablo Chardonnay

Casablanca Valley, Chile

Rich tropical fruit, peach and citrus mingle with subtle vanilla and toasted oak to create the perfect partner for warm, creamy Brie.

“Legend says the Devil guarded these wine cellars from thieves. Frankly, after tasting this Chardonnay, we’d help him.”

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Herb-Roasted Chicken Supreme

Tender chicken breast marinated with rosemary, thyme and garlic before being roasted until beautifully succulent. Finished with a rich wild mushroom cream sauce, buttery pilaf rice and seasonal vegetables.

Proper comfort food.

The sort your mum wishes she’d made.

Trivento Reserve Malbec

Mendoza, Argentina

Velvety and full-bodied with flavours of blackberry, plum, cocoa and gentle spice, this classic Argentine Malbec proves once and for all that chicken and red wine get along just fine.

“If anyone tells you red wine only goes with steak, politely smile… then don’t invite them back next year.”

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Dark Chocolate Mousse

A silky smooth dark chocolate mousse made with premium bittersweet chocolate, topped with a rich dark berry coulis of blackberry, blueberry and blackcurrant, finished with freshly whipped mint cream and fresh berries.

Because every respectable dinner should finish with chocolate.

Failure to do so is considered terribly un-British.

Bonterra Cabernet Sauvignon

Mendocino County, California

Organically grown and beautifully balanced with flavours of blackcurrant, blackberry, cocoa, cedar and vanilla. Rich enough for the chocolate, elegant enough for the berries and smooth enough to make you wonder if one more glass is really such a bad idea.

“Organic wine paired with chocolate… practically a wellness programme.”

Before You Leave…

Thank you for spending the evening with us.

If you’ve discovered a new favourite wine…

Splendid.

If you’ve become an expert after five glasses…

You’re probably sitting at the wrong end of the table.

From all of us at The Shakespeare Pub

Cheers!

“Please drink responsibly… or at least responsibly enough to remember where you parked.”
